This page has been designed in partnership with The Open University (OU) and Hampshire Teaching and Leadership College (HTLC). HTLC is a business unit of Hampshire County Council supporting the training and development of those who work with children.

The main intention of this landing page is to signpost support staff currently working in Hampshire schools who aspire to be teachers but need a degree to enable them to access initial teacher training. The OU offers a flexible means for support staff in schools to gain a degree whilst remaining in their current role.

The OU offers a wide range of undergraduate degrees. Students should consider that generally a degree ought to be at least 50% in the subject you intend to teach, particularly in secondary. There is an element of discretion among teacher training providers and students are advised to contact a few providers before committing to a particular course of study.

Support staff in Hampshire can offer a wealth of skills and experience to the teaching profession. Hampshire County Council is committed to ensuring high quality workforce in Hampshire schools. This landing page represents part of that commitment, and by signposting staff to information about a series of options, HTLC and the OU hope to support students on the journey to becoming qualified teachers.
