The Scottish Government is committed to making Scotland the first Hydro Nation, raising our global profile through recognition of Scotland as an international leader on water management and governance. Scottish Water asked the three educational institutions: Glasgow Clyde College, The Open University (OU) and Heriot-Watt University, to work together to provide an articulated study route for people working in the water industry in Scotland and beyond, from HNC into an Honours Degree into the MSc, the route is designed to match individuals career aspirations. It is possible to join the study route at HNC, BA/BSc Honours or MSc entry points. Options available:
- Glasgow Clyde College (previously Cardonald College): HNC in Water Operations
- The Open University will give credit for the HNC in Water Operations into the BA/BSc Open (Honours) degree. They have worked with Heriot-Watt University to identify pathways through the degree that are of particular relevance to the industry and ideal preparation for the MSc in Water and Environmental Management. The modules in the pathways are for illustrative purposes only, but the Mathematics modules are compulsory (as required by Heriot-Watt University). Refer to pathways
- Heriot-Watt University: MSc in Water and Environmental Management
"I am delighted that Heriot-Watt University's Institute of Infrastructure and Environment is a member of this partnership. The Institute is committed to the provision of educational pathways from further education, through higher education to Masters level. We believe that our independent learning programme in Water Management will form an important component in this pathway."Professor Gareth Pender, Heriot-Watt University
"Having worked in the industry for six years I had a good knowledge of many parts of the business already but this was not enough to allow me to progress further as I did not have an industry specific qualification. The HNC Water Operations has given me a good in-depth knowledge of the areas that I was not experienced in and is a valuable addition to my qualifications, which has since allowed me to gain a promotion. I have also been able to learn from people from other water companies and from other functional areas during project and class work."
