Summary

The Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice provides you with an employer-sponsored qualification designed to meet the College of Policing’s Policing Education Qualification Framework (PEQF) and specifically the National Policing Curriculum. Each module you study is fully mapped to their learning outcomes for police constables. Your role within the police will be one of student officer, where you will be exposed to police duties and be supported by a tutor constable to help you gather evidence to support your learning.

You will gain a thorough understanding of the theory and knowledge relevant to be a police constable in the 21st century which you will apply to your workplace practice.

The qualification is designed to be completed within a two‐year period and meets the standards for the Assessment of Operational Competence.

Key features of the course:

  • Provides an in-depth understanding of the contextual parameters of policing – including key organisations, roles and responsibilities, stakeholders and legislation.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of the core policies, practices, procedures and legislation that you will be expected to execute as a police constable and an opportunity to apply these in a supported environment.
  • Gives you exposure to and practical operational experience of a wide range of policing environments.
  • Develops a critical understanding of evidence-based policing and how this can impact police practice.
  • Develops a critical understanding of key concepts and theories related to policing, society, organisations and crime.
  • Provides the opportunity to develop and engage with reflective practice as well as an understanding of how reflective practice can enhance police organisations and practice.
  • Develops the skills to engage effectively with a broad range of people and organisations.
