Summary

The Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP) provides you with an employer-sponsored programme designed to meet the College of Policing’s Police Constable Entry Routes (PCER) and specifically the National Policing Curriculum. Each module you study is fully mapped to their learning outcomes and the Occupational Standards for police constables. Your role within the police will be one of student officer, where you will be exposed to police duties and be supported by a Tutor Constable to help you gather evidence to support your learning.

You will gain a thorough understanding of the theory and knowledge relevant to be a police constable in the twenty-first century which you will apply to your workplace practice.

The programme is designed to be completed within a two‐year period and meets the standards for the Assessment of Operational Competence.

  • Develops your understanding of the contextual parameters of policing including key organisations, roles and responsibilities, stakeholders and legislation.
  • Provides a thorough understanding of the core policies, practices, procedures and legislation that you will be expected to execute as a police constable and an opportunity to apply these in a supported environment.
  • Gives you exposure to and practical operational experience of a wide range of policing environments.
  • Provides a critical understanding of evidence-based policing and how this can impact police practice.
  • Provides the opportunity to develop and engage with reflective practice as well as an understanding of how reflective practice can enhance police organisations and practice.
  • Develops your skills to engage effectively with a broad range of people and organisations.
  • Develops your understanding of key concepts and theories related to policing, society, organisations and crime.
